National Education Alliance for BPD(NEA-BPD) (www.borderlinepersonalitydisorder.com)
Like TARA NAPD, the NEA-BPD seeks to raise awareness of BPD, providing education on this disorder and promoting research on the causes and treatments of BPD. Led by Dr. Perry Hoffman, the NEA-BPD is one of the foremost leaders in the treatment of family members of people with BPD. In fact, they have developed a twelve-week class that provides information on BPD and teaches skills to family members so they can improve their interactions with their loved ones with BPD. These classes also teach family members coping skills of their own, and they provide access to a support system of people who are dealing with similar problems. These classes, led by family members of people with BPD themselves, are available in cities across the United States and in Canada. The organization’s website provides information on classes that are currently available.
The NEA-BPD also hosts several national and regional meetings on BPD each year. Many of the meetings are open to people with BPD and their family members, as well as researchers and clinicians. Typically, these meetings provide information on the newest research on BPD, as well as treatment approaches that are being developed. They generally last two days and are a great opportunity for everyone with an interest in BPD to come together and learn from one another. Information on upcoming meetings is available on their website, along with links to videos of recent talks and workshops—and watching these videos can be a great way of learning more about BPD. Finally, the NEA-BPD also provides reputable information on BPD, including up-to-date research conducted by some of the leading experts in this area.
